I fucking hate when people propagate utter bullshit and then go, “OH, WELL, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT WASN’T TRUE/REAL?” There’s this thing called Google, you fucking moron. If you come across something that seems fishy, or just something you aren’t sure of/don’t know, FUCKING GOOGLE IT. There’s absolutely no excuse not to. Most households have a computer with internet access and almost everyone has a phone with that’s capable of Googling. If people took the initiative and did some research, we wouldn’t be living in such an embarrassingly fucking stupid society.

What would be going on at DC if I were in charge (lol):

    trevoredwards:

    • Judd Winick would be the only person allowed to write Jason Todd.
    • Scott Snyder would be kept on Batman indefinitely.
    • Brad Meltzer would be allowed to do whatever the fuck he wants.
    • Scott Lobdell would be shot in the face.
    • Greg Tocchini, Robert Teranishi, and Jock would be drawing most of the bat-titles.
    • Adam Hughes would get to draw whatever the fuck he wants.
    • Grant Morrison would be allowed to write any male character of his choosing (I’d keep him away from female characters though, since he’s always botching shit).
    • Geoff Johns would probably be put back on Flash forever.
    • Jeph Loeb would get another Superman/Batman title and whatever else he wanted to write.
    • Jim Lee would get smacked and I’d let him know that, as pretty as his art is, he isn’t the greatest artist in the world. I’d probably put him on an Aquaman title or something.
    • Marv Wolfman would be brought in to try and fix the disastrous Teen Titans title.

So many other things, but I don’t have the time to sit here and write a novel about what’s wrong with DC (just kidding, I do have the time, I’m just not going to do it).

I was just trying to figure out who I’d put on Nightwing and then I remembered this list, and I never even included Nightwing! I’d probably have Snyder, Dixon, and Jones collab on writing duties and Jock and Teranishi on the art.

    I hate the fact that

I can count on one hand the people working at DC who can accurately write Jason Todd and Tim Drake. They’re both complex characters, sure, but they aren’t by any means hard to write. As a writer, I know that as long as you do your homework there isn’t such a thing as a character that’s hard to write. And people who do have difficulty dealing with the characters their writing should probably think of switching fields.

Really this doesn’t just apply to Tim and Jason. I’m tired of seeing DC butcher all of their characters. They’ve used the ‘New 52’ as an excuse to take characters which have already been established and use them as a template for completely new characters. In my opinion, that’s as lazy as you can get. They should have followed Marvel’s lead with the Ultimate line and printed the New 52 as something occurring on another Earth (instead of using Flashpoint as an excuse to ’re-write’ the multi-verse. Again, lazy writing).

I’m noticing more and more recently that people have this bad habit of just accepting things they don’t like without actually putting any effort forth to effect change to those things. If you’re not happy with your weight then stop shoveling disgusting food down your throat and try being more active. If you’re not happy with the way people treat you, then try approaching people differently. If you’re not happy with your boyfriend/girlfriend, then break up with them. Don’t just sit around bitching about a situation saying “OH WELL, GEE, I WISH THINGS WOULD GET BETTER FOR ME. SIIIIIGH,” that’s not how life works.

Aristotle says “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not a single act, but a habit.”

“Willow Smith, you’re 11 years old. Nobody needs advice about ‘being themselves’ from you. Call us back when you get your period” was tweeted and retweeted hundreds of times last night and Monday morning.

Considering what black children learn about blackness, subtly and openly, in the media and in American culture, don’t we want them to have the strength and resilience to say, “I am not your stereotype, but I am me”? Don’t we want them to feel comfortable in their skin? Don’t we want black children to be as free as other children? Don’t we want to inoculate little girls against the onslaught of shitty messages about black femaleness? Perhaps we don’t.

I can’t help but set reaction to Willow Smith next to the plethora of young male performers who brag about swag and girls and money without raising so much as an eyebrow. But a little black girl sings “your validation is not that important to me,” and all hell breaks loose.

Much reaction to Willow Smith also confirms the way women are expected to perform femininity. One person live tweeting the BET Awards offered that Willow Smith was “turning into a little lesbian,” and that wasn’t the only message speculating on the 11-year-old’s sexuality or questioning her gender. Another tweeter snarked that rapper Tyga and Willow are one in the same.

There would be nothing wrong If Willow were to identify as a lesbian or a boy, but what narrow parameters are we placing on girls and women if simply wearing our hair short, sporting a button down over skinny jeans, and daring to mount a skateboard dictates all anyone needs to know about who we are and who we love?

What’s the problem? If I had a little girl, I would be excited as all get out if she were like Willow Smith. I wish I had been more like Willow at 11. (But then, I don’t have multimillionaire parents, which makes some difference, yes?) We lament the presence of strong role models for our children. They could certainly do a lot worse than idolizing a seemingly smart, engaging, self-assured, quirky black girl. That so many of us don’t recognize that says a lot about our society — none of it good. | The Willow Text: What the Reaction to Willow Smith Says About Us (x)

Are people forgetting she’s eleven? You’re all picking on an ELEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL,and for what? As far as I can tell she’s got all the qualities I’d want my daughter to have. People need to fuck off and grow up.
