According to the La Jolla legend, it was at the La Plaza restaurant that Raymond Chandler once snubbed J. Edgar Hoover, the infamous Director of the FBI. Spotting Chandler at a table with his wife, Cissy, Hoover told a waitress to have the writer come to his table so that he might meet him. Chandler instructed the waitress that if Hoover wanted to meet him, he could leave his own table. Hoover was furious, and loudly told the people with whom he was eating that he could have Chandler ‘investigated.’

Raymond Chandler: A Biography by Tom Hiney.

The more I read about him, the more I’m convinced I was Chandler in my previous life lmao.

Writing my own comics [instead of writing for Marvel] has been like trying to break up with a really hot, billionaire boyfriend who also happens to be a smothering control freak. I want to walk away, I know I should walk away — and hell, I have walked away — but it’s hard to stay away. The X-Men are better than a diamond necklace. The X-Men are a beautiful, false promise. And the attention that one receives for writing the X-Men, or any Marvel property, is equally as addictive. But in the long run it leaves you with nothing: no creative ownership, no retirement fund, nothing that is yours. The experience is amazing, but in the end, I had to forge ahead and do my own thing.

I find this is also true of working for a huge technology company. After being laid off and coming back, and having my division sold off, and being invited back, people ask me why I’d consider going back.

I told them it’s like dating an asshole boyfriend who’s rich as hell. The experiences aren’t great but the fucker PAYS FOR EVERYTHING.

I’ve taken that bad boyf back so many times 🙁

    The Abandoned City Peter Zelei

From the artist: I shot these images in the summer of 2014 – nowadays the site is not abandoned anymore, they restarted the building in this year. The location was abandoned for a few years, because the banks stopped supporting the project in 2009 due the economical crisis. The site is located in the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary.
