Doom is travelling back in time with his “time cube” to get some mystical artifact from the mystic Cagliostro (who in the Real World is a hoaxer but in other Marvel comics shows up as Dracula’s nemesis). This scene shows the basics of Doom’s character: he’s a sorcerer and a scientist and he doesn’t take any crap from anyone, not even immortal mages.
