Communities across Canada host parades, barbecues, air shows, and concerts. There are citizenship ceremonies for new citizens, and, of course, fireworks! Check out pictures tagged #canadaday to see more.
From our headquarters in San Francisco, we hope our neighbors to the north had a happy Canada Day/Fête du Canada yesterday!
As you might suspect from the name, Canada Day is the national day of Canada. Celebrations are held to commemorate the anniversary of July 1, 1867 when the British North America Act officially united three colonies into a single country within the British Empire.

Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the Japanese prime minister’s house on Friday to protest the government’s decision to reopen a nuclear power plant in western Japan.
Protests are uncommon in Japan, but the decision to reactivate the Ohi power station 16 months after the tsunami that caused a meltdown at the Fukushima power plant has set of a series of demonstrations across the country.
The Ohi reactor is scheduled to be reactivated on Sunday.
