Triumphal Arch of Constantine the Great, in celebration of his victory over Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge, October 28, A.D. 312; Rome. The arch recycled several artistic elements associated with previous emperors. Constantine legalized Christianity in 313 (Edict of Milan); Theodosius I made Christianity the official religion of the empire in A.D. 380.
