Moissac Abbey: the cloister
Moissac Abbey (or, to give it its full name, the Église Abbatiale St-Pierre) is a Romanesque abbey in the Tarn-et-Garonne region of South-West France. It is renowned for the decorative carvings on the south porch and in the cloister (the latter completed in 1100).
The cloister’s roof is supported by 76 columns, alternating between single and double shafts. Each is topped with a capital decorated with Romanesque carving.
